Can lime cure yeast infection?

Yeast infections can be a bothersome and uncomfortable experience for many women.

While there are various treatments available to cure this condition, some people turn to natural remedies such as lime to alleviate the symptoms.

Lime contains citric acid, which is known to have antifungal properties that can help fight against the growth of yeast.

But the question remains – can lime actually cure a yeast infection? We will explore the effectiveness of lime as a potential remedy for yeast infections and whether it is a safe and reliable option.

Can lime treat infection?

Lime is a citrus fruit that is commonly used in cooking and home remedies for its antimicrobial properties.

The studies that have investigated the potential use of lime as a natural remedy against pathogens are few.

But generally, lime is used as part of a healthy and balanced diet because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds.

Can lime cure a yeast infection?

Yeast infections are a type of fungal infection that occurs in various parts of the body including the genitals.

They are caused by an overgrowth of Candia albicans. When the balance of microorganisms in the body is disrupted by taking antibiotics, it can lead to an overgrowth of Candida albicans and cause a yeast infection.

Many natural remedies have been suggested for treating yeast infections including lime juice.

Unfortunately, there is not enough scientific evidence to support the use of lime juice or any other natural remedy for curing a yeast infection but the reverse is the case.

A study investigated the safety of using diluted lime juice as a potential microbicide for vaginal use.

25 women were randomly assigned to use a 10% or 20% concentration of lime juice through a soaked tampon once daily for 14 consecutive days.

Two women developed a yeast infection after using lime juice and over 70% of women in all groups reported mild and transient side effects.

The use of 20% diluted lime juice resulted in a higher frequency of burning and dryness

Is it good to use lime to wash the private part?

No, it is not recommended to use lime to wash the genital area. Lime is a highly acidic fruit and applying it to sensitive skin in the genital area can cause irritation and inflammation.

The skin in the genital area is among the most sensitive mucous membranes in the body and using acidic substances to clean it can disrupt the natural pH levels of the area.

A survey found that 62% of commercial sex workers (CSWs) admitted to douching with lime juice, mostly for sexual pleasure, hygiene, and contraception.

Lime juice users had a higher prevalence of STIs and HIV and more cervical abnormalities than non-users.

Other factors were reported to have contributed to these results such as the number of sexual partners and frequency of exposure.

Researchers conducted a safety trial of lime juice applied to the human vagina. 47 women were randomly assigned to apply lime juice (25%, 50%, or undiluted) intravaginally twice daily for two 6-day intervals.

The results showed that the brief reduction in pH after the application may be harmful.

Cleansers that are too harsh such as those containing fragrances, alcohol, or harsh chemicals can also cause irritation and inflammation.

Side effects of lime for female

  • Lime juice can cause photosensitivity making the skin more sensitive to sunlight and increasing the risk of sunburn and skin damage.
  • Blistering or rashes on areas of skin.
  • Using lime to wash the genital area can cause irritation and inflammation which can be problematic for females.

How to use lime to wash the vagina

As revealed above, it is not recommended to use lime to wash the genital area because using harsh or acidic substances on the vaginal area can disrupt the natural bacterial balance, leading to irritation, infections, and possibly other complications.

Can too much lemon juice cause a yeast infection

Lime juice is acidic and consuming too much of it can disrupt the natural pH balance of the vagina making it more susceptible to infections such as yeast infections.

Regardless, this is just one of many possible risk factors for yeast infections and there is no definitive proof that consuming lemon juice in moderation can cause an infection.

Can lime cure candidiasis?

There is not enough scientific evidence to suggest that it can cure candidiasis. It is important to speak to your healthcare provider if you suspect you have a fungal infection, as they can provide you with an accurate diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment options.

Should you wash limes?

Limes, like other fruits and vegetables, can sometimes harbor dirt, debris, or bacteria on their surface. Washing them under running water before consuming or using them for cooking is recommended to remove any impurities that may be present.

Can you use limes for cleaning?

Limes can be used as an all-natural and effective cleaning solution for various surfaces such as cutting boards and countertops.

Limes contain citric acid that can help break down dirt and grime on surfaces, making them an effective cleaning agent.

However, because of their acidic properties, it’s important to use caution when using them on delicate or porous surfaces.

The acid in limes can damage or discolor some surfaces or materials. When using limes, always spot test first on an inconspicuous area before using them more extensively, and be sure to rinse the surface thoroughly after cleaning.

What next?

The vagina is a sensitive and self-cleaning environment.

When douching, whether, with citrus juice or any other substance, the natural balance of the environment is disrupted.

It is best to seek qualified medical help to diagnose and treat the issue.
